About Dagshai :
Nestling in the Himalayan range at 6000 feet is a small but beautiful place. A place where I spent 6 very impressionable years of my life. These pages have been set up to commemorate my special attachment to the place. It was the place that was home to me from the 31st of July 1988 to the 6th of April 1994. The Army Public School was established on 3rd June 1986 by the Western Command for the wards of Army personnel so as to provide good education and also to provide respite from changing schools after every posting. (There is more about me here. PAGE HAS NOT BEEN MADE.)
Location :
The School :
The next few pages contain more information about
the school itself and also about its alumni with names and addresses of
students.
The School is located about 45 Kms. from Chandigarh on the National Highway No. 22. The driving time from Chandigarh is a comfortable 1 hour and 30 mins. The
final approach road to the school, branches off mid-way between Dharampur and Kumarhatti off the National Highway. The actual location of the school could not have been beter planned - it is perched atop a hill which provides a panoramic view of the Chandigarh Valley, the Sabathu Valley and the Simla Hills.
The School is housed in ancient buildings amid the greenery of the Simla Hills. During the British rule, Dagshai was a famous R & R location for the officers and men of
the British Army. Most of the dormitories are located within these buildings some of which were built in the 1800's. The school adheres to the age-old system of "houses", it has four houses into which the students are divided namely, Nehru House (A) , Patel House (B) , Tagore House (C) & Subhash House (D) . The girls dormitories are known as Indira House . The school has all the modern amenities and is looked after by a Board of Governors which consists of officers of the Western Command. The GOC-in-C is the Head of the Board. This board is responsible for the overall functioning of the school. The School is a member of the Indian Public Schools Conference (IPSC) and actively takes part in debates, declamations, sports and other such activities.
